NYU Science of Human Connection Lab

I began working in the field of psychology research as the only high school researcher at the Science of Human Connection Lab under the direction of Dr. Niobe Way in 2018. My role on this team of graduate researchers involves transcribing and coding interviews for Dr. Way's research, drafting a literature review, and making weekly presentations of my findings to the research team.
This internship led to my current independent research project on adolescent language and self esteem. Under the supervision of Angelica Puzio, I ran a set of quantitative analyses on a longitudinal data set looking at the relationship between hesitant language use and self esteem across ethnicity in eighth grade girls. I published the findings here.
Independent Study at RCS

As a junior at Riverdale Country School (RCS) I did a year long independent study under the guidance of my mentor, Kelly Nicholson-Flynn. I was interested in determining the relationship between self-verification theory and self-esteem. Drawing from experience at NYU, I wrote an IRB proposal and conducted research with 8th graders at RCS, The experience of developing a protocol, interviewing my subjects, writing a coding guide, and running statistical analysis on my data has been incredibly rewarding.
The Listening Project

I currently work with a team of researchers as the only non-graduate student member of the Listening Project, a community-based intervention program founded by Drs. Carol Gilligan and Niobe Way at PACH (Project for the Advancement of our Common Humanity). I attend weekly workshops to learn techniques and to discuss and teach transformative interviewing to NYC middle school students and teachers; and create tools to integrate these concepts into schools’ curricula, academic courses and advising sessions.
